Richards Builders Merchants started trading in 1965 when Maurice Richards, then an agricultural contractor had the opportunity to purchase some old army barracks which he thought could be dismantled and the second hand timber sold on for further use.

In the late 60s the current site for the business at Doublebois was bought, continuing what had become an excellent start for the company.  The development of this site in the late 70s included the building of sheds to house the rapidly expanding supply of timber and the creation of a large yard for further building materials.  In 1996 the opportunity to extend the outside space arose and enabled the business to supply an even wider range of customers.  The most recent expansion to Richards Builders Merchants came in 2007, when a complete revamp to the retail section took place.  Extending the area to add more stock space and give customers more room to walk around the shop.

Although Maurice Richards sadly passed away in 1981, Richards Builders Merchants has always remained a family owned business, currently run by his sons Kevin and Adrian.  Kevin joined the business once he had finished school, taking over after his father died.  Adrian joined Kevin once he had also left school.  Together they work as a team supplying goods to both trade and DIY customers.  Anyone who wants anything, from a lorry load of blocks to just a single piece of timber cut to the size they need.  'We are customer led' says Kevin.  'We meet the needs of 99 per cent of the people who come here, and as for the rest, we will source what they need where possible'.

From 1964 to the present day Richards Builders Merchants has continued to grow from strength to strength, making sure they provide the very best service to all their customers.
